It is a state of <strong>focused attention, deep physical relaxation, and heightened response to suggestion<\/strong> \u2014 a state every person enters naturally several times a day.<\/p>\r\n          <p>The moment just before sleep. Driving and realising you've passed your exit on autopilot. Becoming so absorbed in a film or a song that the room disappears. In each of these your attention narrows, your body settles, and your critical, analysing mind steps back. That is the doorway.<\/p>\r\n          <p>In a session we enter this state intentionally and use it for a purpose: to speak with the part of you that already knows where a problem began. You remain aware throughout, you remember everything afterwards, and you can end the process at any moment. The control was never anywhere but with you.<\/p>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n      <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n  <div class=\"umM__sec\">\r\n    <div class=\"umM__wrap\">\r\n      <div class=\"umM__head\">\r\n        <div class=\"snum\">02 \u2014 History<\/div>\r\n        <div>\r\n          <h2>Two and a half centuries of <em>refinement<\/em><\/h2>\r\n          <p style=\"margin-top:24px\">Hypnosis is one of the oldest documented tools in Western psychology. Its story is one of stripping away mysticism until what remained was a usable, teachable clinical method.<\/p>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n      <\/div>\r\n      <div class=\"umM__tl\">\r\n        <div class=\"row\"><div><div class=\"yr\">1770s<\/div><div class=\"who\">Franz Anton Mesmer<\/div><\/div><div><h3>Animal magnetism<\/h3><p>The Austrian physician Franz Mesmer (1734\u20131815) proposed an invisible \"magnetic fluid\" running through living bodies, and induced trance-like healing states he called mesmerism. His theory was wrong \u2014 but he was the first to take the phenomenon seriously, and he is widely credited with the birth of modern hypnotism.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\r\n        <div class=\"row\"><div><div class=\"yr\">1843<\/div><div class=\"who\">James Braid<\/div><\/div><div><h3>The word \"hypnosis\"<\/h3><p>The Scottish surgeon James Braid (1795\u20131860) rejected Mesmer's magnetism and gave the phenomenon its scientific footing. He coined the term <strong>hypnotism<\/strong> \u2014 from the Greek for sleep \u2014 and defined it as a state of focused mental concentration, not sleep. He later felt the name misleading and proposed \"monoideism\": concentration upon a single idea.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\r\n        <div class=\"row\"><div><div class=\"yr\">1880s<\/div><div class=\"who\">Jean-Martin Charcot<\/div><\/div><div><h3>Into the clinic<\/h3><p>The French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot (1825\u20131893) studied hypnosis and hysteria at the Salp\u00eatri\u00e8re in Paris, bringing the subject into mainstream neurology and influencing a generation of physicians \u2014 including a young Sigmund Freud.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\r\n        <div class=\"row\"><div><div class=\"yr\">1950s<\/div><div class=\"who\">Milton H. Erickson<\/div><\/div><div><h3>Conversational hypnosis<\/h3><p>The American psychiatrist Milton Erickson became the most influential figure in modern hypnosis. A master of language, he worked with the unconscious indirectly and flexibly, person by person. His approach \u2014 Ericksonian hypnosis \u2014 reshaped clinical practice and fed directly into later therapeutic models.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\r\n        <div class=\"row\"><div><div class=\"yr\">1969+<\/div><div class=\"who\">American Psychological Association<\/div><\/div><div><h3>A recognised science<\/h3><p>The APA established Division 30, the Society of Psychological Hypnosis. From this point hypnosis research grew rigorous \u2014 randomised controlled trials and meta-analyses replaced anecdote, and multiple medical associations came to endorse its therapeutic use.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\r\n      <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n  <div class=\"umM__sec\">\r\n    <div class=\"umM__wrap\">\r\n      <div class=\"umM__head\">\r\n        <div class=\"snum\">03 \u2014 OMNI Advanced<\/div>\r\n        <div>\r\n          <h2>The OMNI Advanced <em>method<\/em><\/h2>\r\n          <p style=\"margin-top:24px\">I work within the framework of the <strong>OMNI Hypnosis Training Center<\/strong> \u2014 one of the most respected international standards in clinical hypnotherapy, with certified practitioners across dozens of countries. The Advanced level is not about deeper trance for its own sake. It is about precision: reaching the root of an issue and resolving it there.<\/p>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n      <\/div>\r\n      <div class=\"umM__pg\">\r\n        <div class=\"p\"><h3><span>01<\/span> Cause, not symptom<\/h3><p>Most distress is a surface signal of something underneath. OMNI work is structured to find the originating moment \u2014 a memory, a decision, an emotion held in the body \u2014 rather than manage the symptom it produces.<\/p><\/div>\r\n        <div class=\"p\"><h3><span>02<\/span> Structured, not loose<\/h3><p>The method follows a clear clinical arc: rapport, assessment, induction, the core work with the cause, and integration. The modern literature is built on randomised controlled trials and meta-analyses \u2014 and it is more robust than most people expect.<\/p>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n      <\/div>\r\n      <div class=\"umM__rg\">\r\n        <div class=\"umM__rc\"><div class=\"stat\">d = 0.61<\/div><h3>Psychosomatic disorders<\/h3><p>A meta-analysis of 21 randomised controlled trials found a significant weighted mean effect size for hypnotherapy in psychosomatic conditions.<sup>[3]<\/sup><\/p><\/div>\r\n        <div class=\"umM__rc\"><div class=\"stat\">20 yrs<\/div><h3>Largest effects: pain<\/h3><p>A 2024 overview of meta-analyses found the strongest evidence for patients experiencing pain, those undergoing medical procedures, and children.<sup>[1]<\/sup><\/p><\/div>\r\n        <div class=\"umM__rc\"><div class=\"stat\">Safe<\/div><h3>A safe intervention<\/h3><p>A systematic review of meta-analyses concluded hypnosis is safe and effective in medicine, reducing pain, distress, medication use and procedure time.<sup>[2]<\/sup><\/p><\/div>\r\n      <\/div>\r\n      <div class=\"umM__cols\" style=\"margin-top:48px\">\r\n        <div class=\"side\">Where the<br>evidence is<br>strongest<\/div>\r\n        <div>\r\n          <p>The therapeutic use of hypnosis has been studied for anxiety and emotional distress, chronic and procedural pain, irritable bowel syndrome, smoking cessation, menopausal hot flashes, and as an adjunct in surgery and dentistry. Effect sizes across these areas are typically moderate to large.<sup>[1][2][4]<\/sup><\/p>\r\n          <p>Two honest caveats. First, hypnosis is not a cure-all, and quality varies between studies \u2014 the field itself says so. Second, response varies between people; suggestibility differs, and no responsible practitioner promises a guaranteed outcome. What the evidence supports is that, applied well, hypnotherapy is a genuine, measurable clinical tool \u2014 not theatre.<\/p>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n      <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n  <div class=\"umM__sec\">\r\n    <div class=\"umM__wrap\">\r\n      <div class=\"umM__head\">\r\n        <div class=\"snum\">05 \u2014 Myths &amp; reality<\/div>\r\n        <div><h2>What it <em>isn't<\/em><\/h2><\/div>\r\n      <\/div>\r\n      <div class=\"umM__myth\">\r\n        <div class=\"cell m\"><div class=\"tag\">The myth<\/div><p>You're unconscious and under someone else's control.<\/p><\/div>\r\n        <div class=\"cell t\"><div class=\"tag\">The reality<\/div><p>You're awake and aware. His core conviction \u2014 that every symptom has a cause \u2014 became OMNI's first principle.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\r\n        <div class=\"row\"><div><div class=\"yr\">1979<\/div><div class=\"who\">Gerald F. Kein<\/div><\/div><div><h3>OMNI is founded<\/h3><p>A premiere student of Elman, Gerald \"Jerry\" Kein founded the OMNI Hypnosis Training Center in Florida. His mission: make hypnotherapy <strong>effective, fast and easy to learn<\/strong> \u2014 short, targeted sessions with concrete results, built around reaching the cause rather than managing symptoms.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\r\n        <div class=\"row\"><div><div class=\"yr\">2012<\/div><div class=\"who\">Hansruedi Wipf<\/div><\/div><div><h3>The succession<\/h3><p>Kein named Hansruedi Wipf his successor, sealing the handover at the Boston Hypnosis Congress.
