Questions I hear

Twenty-eight honest answers about hypnosis, the session, money, and how I work. If yours isn't here, just ask me in the free consultation.

01 — About hypnosis

Is hypnosis safe?

Yes. You're aware throughout, you remember everything, and you can stop the session at any time. Hypnosis is focused attention, not loss of control — the opposite of what films and stage shows suggest.

Can I be hypnotised?

Almost certainly. Everyone enters hypnosis naturally several times a day — drifting off to sleep, driving on autopilot, lost in a film or a song. In a session we simply do it intentionally and with purpose.

Will I lose control or be made to do something?

No. You cannot be made to act against your values or do anything you don't want to. I guide the process; every choice remains yours. If at any point you wanted to stand up and leave, you could.

Will I remember the session afterwards?

Yes. Far from erasing memory, the work usually brings buried material into clearer view. Most people remember the session well and leave with new understanding.

What does being hypnotised actually feel like?

For most people, deeply relaxed but alert — like the absorbed state just before sleep, or being so caught up in something that the room fades. You stay aware and can speak the whole time.

What if I can't relax or my mind won't stop?

That's common and not a problem. You don't have to "try" to relax — my job is to guide you there. A busy mind doesn't block the process; we work with whatever state you arrive in.

What if I don't "go under" deep enough?

Effective work doesn't require a dramatic, deep trance. A light, focused state is enough for most therapeutic change. Depth varies between people and between days — and the method accounts for that.

Is hypnosis the same as sleep?

No. James Braid, who coined the word in 1843, regretted the "sleep" root almost immediately. Hypnosis is a state of focused concentration, not sleep — your mind is engaged, not switched off.

Is there real scientific evidence for it?

Yes. The modern literature includes randomised controlled trials and meta-analyses, with the strongest evidence for pain, medical procedures and emotional distress. You'll find the studies and references on the Method page.

02 — The session

How long does a session take?

A full session runs 2 to 3 hours. We work to result, not to a clock — a short session that ends mid-process is unfair to your time and money.

Why so long — most therapists do 50 minutes?

Because the goal is resolution in as few sessions as possible. Reaching the root cause and working with it properly takes time. One longer session often does what many short ones cannot.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people need between one and four. After the first session we both have a clear sense of what's left. There are no packages — we stop when the work is done.

What happens in the first session?

We open by talking through what brought you here and what you've tried. Then we map the structure of the issue, enter hypnosis, work directly with the cause, and finish with integration — bringing you back to full presence.

Online or in person?

The free first consultation can be online or by phone. The actual session is in person, in Breukelen — body, breath and presence matter to the work.

Do I have to tell you everything?

No. You share what you're comfortable sharing. The method can work effectively even when you keep some details private — your sense of safety comes first.

Is it confidential?

Completely. Everything said in session stays between us, always.

Can it bring up difficult emotions?

Sometimes, briefly — reaching a cause can stir real feeling. But the process is guided and safe, and we don't leave you there: integration at the end of every session brings you back to steadiness.

03 — What it helps with

What kinds of problems do you work with?

Anxiety and panic, stress and burnout, trauma, confidence, habits like smoking or emotional eating, and life transitions. The common thread is a pattern with a root cause we can reach.

Can it help with anxiety and panic?

Yes — this is one of the most studied applications of hypnotherapy. We work with the source of the anxiety rather than only managing the symptoms.

Can it help me stop smoking or change a habit?

Often, yes. A habit is usually a solution to an unnamed problem. When we address what the habit is really doing for you, letting go of it becomes far easier.

Can hypnotherapy treat medical conditions?

Hypnotherapy is a complementary practice, not a replacement for medical or psychiatric care. It can support wellbeing alongside treatment, but it does not diagnose or cure disease. If something needs a doctor, see a doctor.

Is it suitable for everyone?

Not always. For certain serious psychiatric conditions hypnotherapy isn't appropriate, or should only happen alongside medical care. The free consultation is partly there so I can tell you honestly whether this is right for you.

What if you don't think you can help me?

I'll say so plainly, and where I can, point you toward what might help instead. I'd rather lose a booking than take on work I don't believe will serve you.

04 — Money & practical

What does it cost?

The first consultation is free. A first session is €250 and follow-up sessions are €200, both incl. BTW. Full detail is on the Pricing page.

How and when do I pay?

Payment is made in advance, before the session, by bank transfer. Your slot is confirmed once payment is received.

What's your cancellation policy?

Free cancellation or rescheduling up to 48 hours before the session. Within 48 hours the session is charged in full.

Is it covered by insurance?

No. My therapy is not reimbursed by insurance; the full cost is paid privately.

What if I genuinely can't afford it?

Once a month I take on one person on a reduced, individually agreed arrangement, when finances are the only thing in the way. If that's your case, just write to me and say so — there's no form and no awkward process.

Where is your office?

In Breukelen, near Utrecht, by appointment. You'll get the exact address when we confirm your session.

What languages do you work in?

Sessions are in English or Polish — whichever lets you speak most freely.
